With newborn piglets, the first hours after being born are the most critical phase of their lives. Approximately 80% of loss in piglets occurs during the first three days after birth, often due to insufficiently developed thermal regulation of the organism.

Newborn piglets are in great need of warmth and therefor, warm bedding is a must for newborn piglets. In consequence, it is necessary to put the piglets onto heated bedding just after their birth. Warm bedding helps the piglets prosper faster and grow healthier, with faster weight increments and thus greater efficiency of your work.

The use of infra-lamps as a secondary source of warmth for the bedding in the first two days seems to make sense. Piglets are in an enormous need of warmth in the first days of their lives. The use of such lamp also depends on the position of the piglets; it usually becomes quite clear when using the lamp is not necessary any more.
